A really nice 6 mile round-tripper starts at the Hellroaring trail head (a little west of Roosevelt Lodge), heads down to the Yellowstone River, which you cross on a suspension bridge, then through woodland until it traverses sage flats (take a hat and lots of water, this part can be hot), then parallels Hellroaring Creek and continues to the confluence of the Yellowstone River and Hellroaring Creek. It's one of my favorites. Do save some energy for coming back out, however, the last mile or so is all uphill.
Pic was taken at the confluence in early September 2007. It was a dry year, I think this year you will find both rivers more full of water than we did.
